In my book, The city of Dreaming Books, there is a place called the grave yard of forgotten writers. It is a sad place, where writers that are of no success and no home live. It is literally homeless writers living in graves, being tossed a few measly pyras (Zamonian currency) to write a poem or two from tourists.
This makes me think. Why would a person not be a successful author in a city so devoted to literature? Surely it's enforced in schools to a great extent. So how does this happen? There seems to be only a few different fields of work including, being an author, teacher, book store owner, librarian, etc. Seems like you'd surely fail in life if you weren't educated in the art of literature in city that's based on books.
Who are those people? The ones that failed? Why did they fail? I think its because there's so much competition. In a city of literature, people will only read the books with the most general appeal. Who would want to waste their time on some unheard of book when they could be reading the hot new stuff? The new hot stuff clouds their minds, to them it's the best when really the best could be a book rejected for some dumb reason.
I'm going to goes the author is trying to say something like "the best authors aren't always the haughty appealing ones". That or "write well or you'll find yourself in a hole". More of the first on though.
What about the few citizens that don't like reading or literature? How many rights do they have? Whose going to appreciate a person who has nothing to do with their society? What if they're true passion was something else. Like Optimus's friend the talking boar, hasn't got the ability to judge books, so he doesn't read many. He really likes to lay bricks though. What did people think of him when they found out he didn't care much for reading. Maybe they'd be accepted as artists, but what if they weren't artists. What if they new nothing about literature? Would they still be accepted?
Maybe the people in the graveyard of forgotten writers are there cause the didn't want to be writers in the first place? People don't seem to have time for bad literature. Sounds a bit like america.
I makes me think why homeless people are homeless. Were they not accepted either? Do they need a hug? I think that they're usually just homeless cause they don't have money or something, but what does not being accepted mean? It means not being a part of something. For the grave dwellers it means no being a part of literary society or even regular society. For people it mean having to find new friends. Or people who do accept someone who was not accepted for whatever reason.

Why can't we write?
I think any child aquatinted with literature has tried to write a word or two.
And any child who has tried to write a word or two has had a blank mind. Nothing to write about, or at least thats what they think.
The human mind is never really blank is it? Your always thinking about something, no matter what it is. So are we actually not able to think of anything, or are we choosing not to write? But why would we choose not to write?
Maybe something is keeping us from writing, something on our minds. In that case, not writing because "your mind is blank", is just a lie to keep you from writing about what your thinking.
